urbanSPIN.net is the evolution of over two years of Urban Podcasting and Blogging. It is one of the premiere sources of
entertaining, educational and uniquely urban podcasts on the net as well high quality editorials and commentary. The “SPIN” the site boasts is not specific to the African American experience, “URBAN” as we define it, is those perspectives, beliefs, and opinions that are unique to the city. urbanSPIN.net is the voice of the people, the people in nightclubs and poetry lounges, Ipod listeners and cubicle dwellers. It is for those people who shed their slacks and shirts from Express and Banana Republic, and throw on the latest gear from H&M, LRG and Ed Hardy. The shows on urbanSPIN.net are produced and voiced by people who are JUST LIKE YOU, so urbanSPIN is in actuality. YOUR SPIN.
urbanSPIN.net is the evolution of over two years of production and more than 150 produced podcast episodes. It began with the website COSTASWORLD.COM. Costa’s World was the brainchild of Tony Price (commonly referred to by his friends as Costa). As an avid talk radio listener with a background in news radio, Tony was eager to find Talk programs that spoke to him and his generation. When he couldn’t find one, he did what
any Gen X member would, he created his own. Costa’s World was launched in August of 2005, with a staff of close to 15 dedicated friends, they entered the uncharted world of Urban Talk. It was slow at first, but before long many listeners, thirsty for this brand of talk and engaged by the “Real Talk” qualities of the show, began coming to the site in mass numbers. Costa’s World had become a urban cult sensation, and listeners from all over the United States and Europe tuned in to hear this outrageous but smart show.
Soon mainstream media would take notice, and one of the top movie studios in the world would tap Costa’s World to produce the first sponsored podcast of a feature film. The studio was Sony Pictures and the film was Little Man starring Marlon and Shaun Wayans. This was just the start, Tony and crew would go on to produce official podcasts for Stomp The Yard, This Christmas and First Sunday.
So after a brief break in production, it was decided that Costa’s World would return with a new look and a new feel. It would return with new shows and new personalities, and a new desire to get more people into not only listening to podcasts, but producing shows on their own. urbanSPIN.net was created with that in mind, a place where people can listen to top quality urban programming, not just Costa’s World, but a wide variety of programming. In the current weeks you will see much variety in regards to the site, the crew has returned with renewed vigor and renewed commitment to deliver the best in urban talk.
